PM GatiShakti Accelerates 67.57 km Ayodhya Bypass Project
The Ayodhya Bypass Project spans 67.57 kilometers, encompassing the construction of both the Northern and Southern Ayodhya Bypasses. These greenfield developments, totaling 35.40 kilometers and 32.172 kilometers respectively, traverse key districts such as Lucknow, Basti, and Gonda. Facilitating connectivity to economic, social, and logistical hubs, including tourist and pilgrimage sites, this project promises to invigorate regional development.
Positioned between Lucknow and Gorakhpur, Ayodhya serves as a critical transit point for various commodities. The construction of the bypass aims to streamline freight traffic, alleviating congestion within the city limits.
Anticipating a surge in both passenger and freight movement, the Ayodhya Bypass aims to cater to projected increases, fostering seamless transportation across eight influence areas surrounding Ayodhya. Moreover, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time to key national highways such as NH-27, NH-330A, NH-330, and NH-135A, enhancing regional connectivity.
This endeavor will also promote multi-modality by integrating railway stations at Ayodhya, Sohwal, A N Dev Nagar, and Ayodhya Cantt, alongside the development of Ayodhya Airport. Additionally, it complements other proposed projects evaluated under the NPG framework, including the Prayagraj–Raibareli Project, Gorakhpur-Siliguri Corridor, and Gorakhpur-Bareilly Corridor.
Beyond its historical significance, Ayodhya's infrastructure landscape plays a pivotal role in advancing the overall connectivity and development of its environs. The recent inauguration of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport underscores this trajectory, bridging Ayodhya to the national and international transportation network and catalyzing economic exchanges. Furthermore, the modernization of Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station accommodates a substantial increase in commuter traffic and facilitates efficient goods transportation, bolstering regional economic prosperity.
