MMRDA starts work on Rs 4,500-cr 2nd coastal road in Thane
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has commenced work on a significant coastal road project in Thane, aiming to connect Kharegaon and Anand Nagar at Kopri. This new project, announced by MMRDA, will greatly improve connectivity in the area. Currently, commuters face a detour of over 30 minutes due to the lack of a direct road between Kharegaon and Kopri. The proposed coastal road will drastically reduce travel time to approximately 15 to 20 minutes, benefiting local residents.
The coastal link road between Kharegaon and Kopri spans a length of 7.34 km, and MMRDA has initiated the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a feasibility report and assess the road alignment. The consultant will also explore the possibility of constructing a bridge to connect both sides of the Thane Creek.
Additionally, the Thane coastal road project, connecting Gaimukh and Balkum, is estimated to stretch over 13.21 km and require an investment of Rs 4,500 crore. As part of the plan, MMRDA aims to acquire land occupied by villagers, which is essential not only for the Thane coastal road but also for the construction of a car depot for the Metro 4 and Metro 4A Green Lines, namely the Wadala-Ghatkopar-Kasarvadavali and Kasarvadavali-Gaimukh metro rail corridors.
