Indian Govt plans to use solid waste for road construction
The Indian government is considering linking road construction with the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, allowing the use of inert material from solid waste in the building of embankments along national highways. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has drafted a policy on the use of inert waste material that doesn't disintegrate naturally and is seeking public comments. The move aims to address the challenges of urban solid waste disposal while meeting the soil requirements for highway embankment construction. The initiative follows successful pilot projects, and the government aims to dovetail highways construction with the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
