Cabinet clears ₹2,486.78cr road project in Tripura
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has granted approval for a substantial investment of ₹2,486.78 crore for the improvement and widening of the Khowai-Harina highway stretch in Tripura. The project spans from km 101.300 (Khowai) to km 236.213 (Harina) of NH-208, covering a length of 134.913 km. This development aims to enhance interstate connectivity between Assam and Tripura via NH-208A, resulting in reduced transit time and safer commuting for travelers. The comprehensive project cost includes a loan component of ₹1,511.70 crore from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Official Development Assistance (ODA) scheme. Additionally, the road improvement initiative is expected to facilitate better connectivity within Tripura, provide alternative access to Assam and Meghalaya from Tripura, and enhance links to Bangladesh through Kailashahar, Kamalpur, and Khowai Border Check Post, as the road passes in proximity to the Bangladesh border.
