Government Allocates Rs 18,907 Crore for 26,474 km of Rural Roads Under PMGSY in FY27

Rular-Roads
The Government of India has earmarked Rs 18,907 crore in FY 2026-27 for the construction of 26,474 km of rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and related rural connectivity programmes.

The allocation was reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Rural Development Secretary Rohit Kansal to assess the physical and financial progress of PMGSY and the Road Connectivity Project for Left Wing Extremism Affected Areas (RCPLWEA). Senior officials from multiple states participated in the review.

The Ministry directed states to accelerate the completion of all remaining unconnected habitations under PMGSY-I and PM-JANMAN, with special focus on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) areas. States were also asked to fast-track DPR preparation, address implementation bottlenecks and ensure timely project execution.

Progress under RCPLWEA was reviewed, with emphasis on strengthening road connectivity in Left Wing Extremism-affected districts through closer coordination with implementing agencies.

The review also highlighted the need for strict quality control, enhanced field inspections and stronger maintenance mechanisms to ensure durable rural road infrastructure. States were encouraged to adopt the e-MARG digital platform for real-time monitoring of road maintenance, payment tracking and performance assessment.

The initiative is aimed at expanding all-weather rural connectivity, improving access to essential services and supporting inclusive economic development across rural India.
