Centre clears ₹7,800-cr road upgrades in Assam

The Central government has approved ₹7,800 crore for the re-construction of the national and state highways damaged during the ravaging floods and landslides, and for the conversion of wooden bridges to concrete ones in Assam. The construction of different roads and bridges under various projects, including externally aided ones, is to be carried out on war footing.

The state secured approval for two projects - the reconstruction of the road network of Dima Hasao region worth ₹3,800-crore and the conversion of ₹4,000-crore age-old 11 wooden bridges into concrete ones. The implementation of various crucial projects by the state PWD in association with the World Bank and Asian Development Bank is being carried out on a fast-track basis. They included ₹2,608-crore Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge, ₹3,197-crore Palasbari Sualkuchi Bridge, among others under 'Asom Mala', a state government scheme to improve road connectivity across the state.
