The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved two projects worth over Rs 6000 crore to ease traffic problem in Bhopal. The cabinet on August 31 approved the construction of the 40.90 km long west Bhopal bypass, and it gave the green signal to the second major project for Bhopal in a month on October 4 by approving the eight-lane elevated lake corridor. The lake corridor aims to ease traffic congestion in the old city area, particularly on the VIP road constructed in 1999. The 6.71 kilometers-long eight-lane corridor will be built on hybrid annuity model at a cost Rs 3,155 crore. It will start from Kamla Park and run parallel to the VIP road, consisting of two sections: one from Khanugaon area to Indore Road and the other for the airport. The 40.90 km long west Bhopal bypass will also be constructed on hybrid annuity model at a cost of Rs 3000 crore.
