RGIA in Telangana awaits rail connectivity

Rajiv Gandhi Airport Rail Connectivity
In order to provide quicker connectivity to air bound passengers in Telangana, the Union railway ministry has decided to provide train connectivity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad, starting from Umdanagar in the state. Announcing this, Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu said, "feasibility study of the project will be assigned to Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES). This would be the extension of Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS or suburban network) connectivity to Shamshabad Airport from Umdanagar on city's outskirts through underground connectivity plans." It may be recalled that Telangana is the youngest state of the country and there is a need to provide more help to it. As announced in this year's Rail Budget, Railways will set up two new world-class green field terminals at Cherlapalli and Nagulapalli in a time-bound manner with the cooperation of the state government, he said.
