Reliance gets nod for $3-bn power plant

Reliance Power Plant
Adding to its project portfolio in the power generation segment, Reliance Power has recently secured 'go ahead' signal from Bangladesh government to set up a $3-billion power project with an aggregate of 3,000MW capacity, said official sources, claiming that the Bangladesh government has approved the first phase of project thereby providing a role to the private sector in growing energy ties with India. The power project, including a floating facility for storing and re-gasifying liquid gas imported in ships, is the single-largest foreign investment to date for Bangladesh. Reliance Power had signed the MoU with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), last year during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit for the first phase of 750MW plant to be set up at Meghna ghat in Narayan ganj district, about 40 km southeast of Dhaka, along with the floating terminal at Maheshkhali island in Cox's Bazar district. The floating facility will have a capacity of handling 2 million tons a year of liquid gas, they added.
