Railways Introduces Advanced Systems for Track Safety & Maintenance
Union Minister of Railways, Shri Ashwani Vaishnaw, inspected state-of-the-art systems—the Road Cum Rail Inspection Vehicle (RCRIV) and the Integrated Track Monitoring System (ITMS)—at New Delhi railway station. He announced plans to deploy track recorder vehicles across all railway zones, underscoring the critical role of technology in proactive track maintenance, reducing trackmen's workload, and enhancing operational efficiency.
Road Cum Rail Inspection Vehicle (RCRIV): Dual-Mode Track Inspection
Built on the Tata Yodha model, the RCRIV operates on both road and rail, equipped with advanced cameras and durable wheels. It enables continuous track condition recording for up to 15 days, ensuring enhanced precision and safety.
Integrated Track Monitoring System (ITMS): High-Tech Track Monitoring
Installed on Track Recording Cars (TRCs), ITMS uses laser sensors, high-speed cameras, and LiDAR to measure track parameters at speeds between 20 to 200 kmph. Its contactless technology delivers real-time alerts via SMS and email, ensuring timely attention to critical issues.
These innovations highlight the Ministry’s commitment to leveraging technology for safer and more efficient railway operations.
