Railways hastens ₹4,532 cr double-track rail bridges in Bihar

Strengthening the rail network in Bihar, the Indian Railways recently cleared two major projects for the state. The first is the doubling of railway track on the Digha-Pahleja section at an investment of ₹251 crore where the project would be completed by December 2019. The other project is the 24-km-long rail-cum-road bridge between Vikramshila railway station near Pirpainty south of the Ganga and Kataria railway stations near Naugachhia in the north of the river at an investment of ₹4,379.01 crore. The detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared and the process of land acquisition is also set to start shortly. The proposed double-track rail bridge parallel to the existing Rajendra Setu on the Mokama-Barauni section across the Ganga would be completed in three years, railway minister Piyush Goyal said in a recent statement. The work on a part of the project, like the earth work for the construction of the alignment section, has already been started. The contract for the construction of the double-track bridge had been allotted to Indian Railway Construction Company Limited (IRCON).
