In order to double the 113-km rail track on the Angamaly-Erumeli Sabari line in and around Kerala in the downstream south, the railway called upon the Union government to clear the Rs.1,712 crore projects for which the state government is ready to pitch in Rs. 856 crore nearly half of the project cost in the form of acquisition. Similarly, the state also sought funds for Kottayam track doubling project, which is slated to be doubled by March 2020. And also efforts are being made to make the Centre completely fund the long-pending doubling work through Alappuzha. The 9-km-long Changanassery-Chingavanam and 8-km-long Kurupunthara-Ettumanur stretches will be doubled in the immediate future. The 19-km-long Chingavanam-Ettumanur stretch will be doubled by March 2020 and instructions have been given to the District Collector to speed up acquisition of land. Railway officials including Additional Member (Works), Railway Board, Ajit Pandit and an Additional Chief Secretary, P.H. Kurien to ensure speedy work on the doubling of track on the Ernakulam-Kayamkulam stretch through Kottayam and Alappuzha, which is crucial to introduce more trains in the State and these projects are being taken up on priority basis.
