The Indian railways has earmarked ₹50,000 crore for building Road Over Bridges (RoBs) and RuBs in the current financial year, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said. In 2018-19, 1,477 RoBs and RUBs were constructed across the railway network at an investment of ₹3,543 crore. The Indian Railways is also planning to remove 2568 manned crossings along the Golden Quadrilateral route in the next four years; the move is part of the ministry's 100-day roadmap. All unmanned level crossings (UMLCs) on Broad Gauge (BG) lines have already been removed as on January 31 this year. For the current fiscal, over 1500 ROBs/RUBs have been targeted for construction of which 195 have been built till now. The policy for construction of ROBs/RUBs to eliminate (MLCs) on Golden Quadrilateral/Golden Diagonal (GQ/GD) is under consideration and a decision will be taken shortly.
