Railway speeds up ₹16,216 cr project in Uttarakhand
Construction work on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project, which entailed a whopping investment of ₹16,216 crore in Uttarakhand has been fast tracked. On the rail line, the state government will develop 12 railway stations on the route in pahadi-style architecture, including one that exactly matches the iconic building of Kedarnath shrine. This type of railway station will come up in Rishikesh and will be the first station on the route, said CM, adding that the rail route will connect plains with the hills, encourage tourism and boost local economy. In this connection, the state has asked the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited to construct railway stations on separate themes which showcase the state‘s culture. Work has recently hastened on the project, which was lying in limbo since 1996 when it was announced. The 125-km rail link will allow Char Dham yatra devotees to reach Karnprayag in Chamoli district to visit Kedarnath and Badrinath. The 12 proposed railway stations on the route are New Rishikesh, Virabhadra, Shivpuri, Byassi, Devprayag, Meetha, Srinagar, Dhari Devi, Rudraprayag, Gholtir, Gauchar and Karnprayag, he insisted.
