PWD plans ₹300-cr elevated Barapullah corridor extension

Flyover Project
The Public Works Department (PWD) has drawn up plans for phase IV of the 7-km elevated extension of the flyway to the west, from INA market to the Army Hospital in Delhi Cantonment on NH 8 at an investment of ₹300 crores. The elevated road is set to be extended to Delhi Cantonment, which will enable east Delhi commuters to zip to IGI Airport in 40 minutes, said official sources, reiterating that of this, 4.5-km it will run along the railway track that has stations at Sarojini Nagar, Chanakyapuri and Safdarjung and will cross Safdarjung airport and Dhaula Kuan before dropping down in front of the Army Hospital on NH 8. The new stretch would have foot over-bridges for pedestrians and at least four entry/exit points to make the corridor more accessible for commuters. The Phase IV of the project will make it easy for people to visit popular markets such as INA, Dilli Haat and Sarojini Nagar and also make way for patients coming to hospitals such as AIIMS and Safdarjung. As a part of the feasibility test that is underway, the route of the 7-km stretch has been finalized as the elevated corridor will end at the airport approach road so that congestion at Dhaula Kuan can be avoided.
