In its quest to build top-class road network across the state, the state government in Punjab has in principal given go-ahead for the strengthening of 9,000 km of link roads at a total cost of Rs.1000 crore. The New Greenfield Expressway from New Delhi to Katra via Amritsar is in the offing which would be constructed by the National Highways Authority of India. Likewise, Punjab government is considering to construct Ring Roads around all the major cites of the state for which the feasibility study is being carried out, said official sources, claiming that the year 2018 would witness major infrastructural development. Landran junction in SAS Nagar would soon be upgraded at a cost of Rs.23 crore and they added that the instruction for the land acquisition has been given by the Chief Minister and the work on this project would be commenced in the next financial year. The expressway would be constructed by the National Highway Authority of India for which alignment is being completed very shortly. Likewise under Bharat Mala Scheme NHAI is upgrading 800 km of state roads to four lanes national highways, work on this project would also commenced shortly, the sources added.
