Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, reaffirmed India’s global leadership in clean energy transition at the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Speaking at the inaugural session, he said the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) is driving India’s shift towards clean energy, creating jobs, attracting investments, and positioning the nation as a global hub for green hydrogen.

During the event, the Minister unveiled the official logo of NGHM and announced a Rs 100 crore Call for Proposals for pilot projects to produce green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials. The scheme, to be implemented through BIRAC, will encourage participation from industries, start-ups, and research institutions, promoting innovation in cost-effective hydrogen production technologies.

Launched in 2023 with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore, the NGHM aims to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and strengthen India’s energy independence. Shri Joshi highlighted progress under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, with incentives awarded for 3,000 MW of electrolyser manufacturing and 8.62 lakh metric tonnes per annum of green hydrogen production. India now records the world’s lowest green ammonia price at Rs 49.75 per kg for 7.24 lakh MTPA capacity.

Additionally, Rs 132 crore has been invested in five green steel pilot projects, Rs 208 crore sanctioned for 37 hydrogen-fuelled vehicles and nine refuelling stations, and Rs 35 crore allocated for the country’s first hydrogen bunkering facility at V.O. Chidambaranar Port. Shri Joshi said the new biomass-based hydrogen initiative will strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem and demonstrate scalable technologies to accelerate the nation’s clean hydrogen transition.
