Prime Minister recently launched projects of about ₹20,000 crore in the entire north eastern belts of the country including ₹4,000 crore projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The projects included laying the foundation of the Se La Tunnel providing all-weather connectivity to the Tawang Valley for civilians, as well as security forces, through the year, said official sources, elaborating that projects worth ₹13,000 crore have been rolled out elsewhere in the region including laying the foundation stone for the six-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra worth ₹2,187 crore. In addition, he launched ₹1,938 crore highway project in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal which will reduce the distance from Salsalabari and Alipurduar to Siliguri in West Bengal by 50 km. This 41.7 km long section of National Highways falls in the Jalpaiguri district providing faster access to Siliguri and better access to rail and air travelers. There will be three railways over bridges, two flyovers, three vehicular underpasses, eight major bridges and 17 minor bridges are to be built along the highways. He laid the foundation of the North East Gas Grid project that will ensure uninterrupted natural gas supply through a 729-km long pipeline starting from Barauni to Guwahati and passing through Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.
