PM Modi Inaugurates World’s Highest Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Chenab railway bridge, the world’s highest rail bridge, marking a landmark achievement in India's infrastructure development.

Chenab Rail Bridge

The iconic bridge, built 359 metres above the Chenab River—35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower—is part of the ₹43,780 crore Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. With 36 tunnels spanning 119 km and 943 bridges, the project now provides all-weather rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India.

Calling it a milestone for national integration and regional development, PM Modi also interacted with workers involved in the bridge's construction. “They shared their experiences, including working in very challenging times. Their families are proud of the work they’ve done,” he said.
