PM Modi Inaugurates ₹29,400 Cr Infrastructure Projects in Mumbai

Among the key projects is the Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project, valued at ₹16,600 crores. This twin-tube tunnel, passing beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, will connect the Western Express Highway at Borivali with Thane Ghodbander Road, reducing the journey by 12 km and saving about an hour of travel time. The total length of the project is 11.8 km.
PM Modi also initiated the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Tunnel Project, worth over ₹6,300 crores. The GMLR will connect the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. Spanning approximately 6.65 km, this project aims to provide direct connectivity between the western suburbs and the proposed new airport in Navi Mumbai as well as the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
Further, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard remodelling will segregate long-distance and suburban traffic, increasing capacity and reducing congestion. The Gati Shakti terminal, covering over 32,600 sqm, will create local employment opportunities and handle commodities like cement.
Additionally, PM Modi dedicated new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and the extension of Platforms No. 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. The new platforms will accommodate longer trains, enhancing passenger capacity and station efficiency. The extended platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, now with a cover shed and washable apron, will support trains of up to 24 coaches.
Finally, the Prime Minister launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana with an outlay of around ₹5,600 crores. This internship program aims to combat youth unemployment by providing skill enhancement and industry exposure for young individuals aged 18 to 30 years.
