Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs 4,500 crore in Kokrajhar, Assam, via video conferencing, aimed at strengthening road and transport infrastructure in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

Among the key initiatives, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for six major road projects in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to enhance regional connectivity and support economic development. Over Rs 1,100 crore has been allocated specifically to strengthen the road network in Bodoland as part of the ongoing Asom Mala Programme, which focuses on expanding and upgrading highways and district roads across the state.

The projects are expected to improve transportation links between towns and rural areas in the BTR region, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce to larger markets, and enhance connectivity for trade and tourism.

In addition to road infrastructure, the development initiatives also include plans for strengthening railway infrastructure in the region, including the establishment of a railway workshop and modernization of railway stations, which are expected to support the region’s emergence as a logistics and trade hub.

These infrastructure projects are aimed at accelerating economic development, improving connectivity, and boosting trade and tourism across Kokrajhar and the wider Bodoland region.
