The state government in Kerala is all set to start the second phase of Karamana-Kaliyikkavila road widening project at an investment of about Rs 136 crore. The works for the 5-km stretch from Pravachambalam to Kodinada is being cleared by the technical clearance committee very shortly, said official sources, detailing that the project report of the project is ready. Once the technical sanction is secured, the tender proceedings would be initiated in the middle of this month and the PWD will start building the project in the next two months. The original estimate for the first phase of works from Karamana to Pravachambalam was Rs 74 crore, however, after Sreedhanya Constructions completed the assigned work, the state gave sanction to revise the amount to Rs 136 crore largely due to various changes in the plan including construction of a subway at Nemom. The second phase of works was originally planned between Pravachambalam and Vazhimukku, which also covers around 6.5km road stretch. However, the land acquisition process in Kodinada-Vazhimukku stretch is still underway, which in turn was delaying the project.
