Otis India is contributing its engineering and vertical transportation expertise to support the development of India’s first high-speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, helping enable faster, safer, and more efficient travel for millions of passengers.

With recent orders, Otis will supply a total of 55 elevators and escalators across six stations and one depot along the high-tech rail corridor. These installations will be designed to meet future-ready standards, ensuring smooth passenger movement and accessibility at the upcoming bullet train stations.

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project, which will operate using Shinkansen (Bullet Train) technology from Japan, will dramatically transform rail travel in India. The 508 km route will cut travel time to just over two hours, with the fastest trains reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h, saving passengers nearly four hours compared to current travel options.

Sebi Joseph, President, Otis India, said: “Otis is already powering India’s ambition and progress in infrastructure growth at metro stations, airports and commercial hubs. Now we are honored to be playing a key role in high-speed rail and the advancement of India’s transportation systems. With Otis innovation, modern and reliable products, and our relentless commitment to passenger safety, we aim to make every step of the passenger’s journey safe, smooth and seamless.”

The Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is the first project in a proposed high-speed rail network that will eventually connect more cities and regions.

The Gen2® Stream elevator systems will feature machine room-less and gearless technology, powered by Otis ReGen™ regenerative drive systems that enable elevators to convert excess energy into electricity.

The Otis 520 NPE escalator systems are heavy-duty designs for safety, endurance, efficiency and reliability. They’re designed for bi-directional travel to keep busy transport hubs moving smoothly.
