Otis India Expands Bengaluru Manufacturing Facility to Meet Growing Demand
Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation, has announced an expansion of its Bengaluru manufacturing facility. This move will boost capacity and enhance the company's ability to meet the rising demand for elevators and escalators in India's residential, commercial, and infrastructure sectors, while also expanding its reach to more cities across the country.
Judy Marks, Otis Chair, CEO, and President, highlighted the company's long-standing partnership with India, dating back to 1892, and emphasized that this investment will strengthen Otis's growth momentum in this crucial market. The expansion will not only better serve customers in India but also support export markets with innovative mobility solutions that align with the country's rapid urbanization.
Established in 1996, Otis India's Bengaluru facility holds an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold certification. The facility's Lead Design Centre has already launched over 25 products for both domestic and international markets. A previous expansion in 2012 doubled the plant's capacity, and the current expansion will further increase its overall capacity by approximately 20%.
Sebi Joseph, President of Otis India, stated that the expansion will double the facility's current escalator production capacity, which is vital for supporting India's growing mobility infrastructure. He noted that Bengaluru's capabilities are instrumental in building modern metro systems, including delivering 112 Gen2® elevators for the second phase of the Bengaluru Metro project and supplying 255 units for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects. Additionally, the expansion will further the company's efforts to harness digitalization for smarter manufacturing processes, improving productivity in transportation, logistics, and other areas.
