ONGC targets ₹13,000-cr for drilling wells in Assam
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in a recent statement has said that it will invest over ₹13,000 crore for exploration of over 220 oil wells across Assam in the next five years, and has signed an MoU with the Government of Assam. The move is a part of its activities in alignment with the PM call for reducing petroleum import by 10 percent by 2022, and also an initiative for the North East Hydrocarbon Vision 2030. The company has recently received the green nod to drill six development wells in five mining lease blocks in Jorhat and Golaghat districts of the state at an estimated cost of ₹240 crore and has secured permission to drill 12 such wells as it has discovered fuel in the Babejia well under the Assam Shelf Basin during 2018-19. It is currently executing 27 projects across the country at an investment of over ₹86,000 crore, including 18 developments and has already pumped in about ₹1,50,000 crore during the last five years in exploration and production, while 10 projects worth ₹13,000 crore were completed in 2018-19, said the statement.
