In order to create well oiled road network across the state, the Odisha government has recently decided to complete the construction 3,500 km of roads under the Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in next few months, states chief secretary A P Padhi, who recently presided over the state level sanctioning committee, said. To speed up the construction of the roads he directed the officials to complete the construction of targeted road length by the end of this financial year. It was revealed in the meeting that a total 3,500km of road under the scheme was laid in 2017-18. In total 43, 222 km of road was constructed at a cost of Rs 18,624 crore by the end of December 2017 connecting 19862 villages. Adding yet another feather to its cap, Odisha has secured the number one position in the implementation of the PMGSY scheme in the country and the state administration is committed to keep up the momentum in the future as well.
