NMDC Signs MoU With IIT Kanpur to Boost Cybersecurity and AI Adoption Across Operations.

In a major step toward strengthening industry–academia collaboration, NMDC, India’s largest iron ore producer, has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur to enhance cybersecurity and accelerate the adoption of advanced digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), across its operations.

The MoU was signed by Satyendra Rai, Executive Director (Digital Transformation), NMDC, and Prof. Ashoke De, Dean (R&D), IIT Kanpur, in the presence of Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, senior officials from NMDC and representatives from IIT Kanpur.

Under the partnership, NMDC and IIT Kanpur will collaborate on cybersecurity risk assessments, policy and governance frameworks, AI and ML integration, security operations and incident response, as well as capacity-building and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Both organisations will jointly undertake research, run pilot projects, conduct specialised training programmes and co-develop proof-of-concept solutions.

Commenting on the collaboration, NMDC CMD Amitava Mukherjee said the partnership will bring IIT Kanpur’s research strengths into NMDC’s operational ecosystem, helping the company strengthen digital security, enhance operational intelligence and build a future-ready technology foundation.
