NHIDCL floats tenders for tunnel project in J&K

National highway infrastructure development corporation limited (NHIDCL)
In a bid to make Mughal road all weather stretch in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the national highway infrastructure development corporation limited (NHIDCL) has recently floated tenders to prepare a DPR for the construction of a tunnel along the 84-km Mughal road connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu with Shopian district in south Kashmir. The state government is very keenly following this aspect at various levels in the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highway. The road usually remains closed for vehicular traffic from December to April every year owing to heavy snowfall hence there is a dire need to build tunnel to make it an all-weather road, the public works department minister Naeem Akhtar said adding that the construction of a tunnel from Chattapani to Zaznar, will be taken up on a war footing.
