NHAI unveils ₹4,500-cr TN-Karnataka NH connectivity

NHAI
The proposed 180-km Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) connecting Hosur in Tamil Nadu with outer Bengaluru has been fast tracked by NHAI under the Bharatmala Pariyojana program at an investment of ₹4,500 crore. It envisages building six lanes enabling vehicle movement between the two states at a speed of 100-kmph. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was carried out recently for the second phase (57km), the construction work for which will begin before the first phase. NHAI needs 405 hectares of land for the second phase. Of the total land required, around 3.7km passes through the core zone of Bannerghata National Park (BNP), a reserved forest, and to save it, NHAI has planned a 6.6-km elevated corridor in this area to prevent human-animal conflict, for which NHAI will take 11 hectares of forest land. Additionally, another 2.5 hectares of forest land will be needed for construction of ramps to connect the corridor with the road. Since the area has elephants, leopards, sloth bears, jackals, wild boars, hares and spotted deer, an underpass has also been proposed for free passage of the wildlife.
