NHAI unveils ₹220 cr mining corridor in Goa

A new four-lane road connecting Collem in Dharbandora taluka to Canacona in Goa will be constructed as part of the Bharatmala project where a major part of the road will also include a mining corridor, as it will cut through the mining belt in Dharbandora, Sanguem and Quepem. Work on the Bharatmala project is expected to begin at an investment worth ₹220 crore for the first phase. The state government has already appointed a consultant, SN Bhobe and associates, who has prepared a project report and which has been sent to the Centre for its approval, public works department chief engineer Uttar Parsekar said. The state government had even drawn a three-phase plan to connect Sanguem with Quepem. The first phase of the mining corridor was proposed between Uguem and Guddemol covering a stretch of 8.9km, the second phase of 8.4km was to connect Guddemol with Capxem. The third and longest stretch of 32-km is to link Cavrem with Uguem, he added.
