NHAI gets aggressive on land acquisition for road projects
In a bid to speed up execution of financially viable roads and highway projects, the National Highways Authority of India has firmed up a strategy to prioritize land acquisition for projects that are to be implemented in the next two to three years and prepare a pipeline of projects to be undertaken in the near future. It will help streamline the land acquisition process, which is a critical issue in building roads. Prior to this, NHAI used to acquire land for all the projects without evaluating their financial viability. Up till now, NHAI has created a pipeline of projects worth Rs 7-8 lakh crore to be awarded over the next three years. The road building agency is ensuring that the land acquisition should be done only through the Bhoomi Rashi portal so that the payment reaches the beneficiary directly.
