NHAI Completes Largest InvIT Monetization of Over ₹16,000 Cr
National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT), by NHAI, raised over ₹16,000 crore through 'InvIT Round-3' for 889 kilometers of National Highway stretches. This marks the largest monetization by NHAI and one of the largest transactions in India's road sector history. The fundraising concluded in February 2024, with unit capital of approximately ₹7,272 crore and debt of around ₹9,000 crore from Indian lenders.
Foreign and domestic investors, including pension funds, insurance companies, mutual funds, and banks, participated in the fundraising. NHIT's successful monetization totals ₹26,125 crore across three rounds, encompassing fifteen operating toll roads spanning nine states.
Established in 2021 to support the National Monetization Pipeline, NHIT has played a crucial role in channelizing financial capital into India's road sector development. NHAI officials commend NHIT's role in PPP and its contribution to infrastructure development. NHIT has raised around ₹12,000 crore in previous rounds since November 2021.
