NHAI Begins Widening of Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Airport Road to Ease Traffic Bottleneck Near Subroto Park

NHAI-road-widening
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated work to widen the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Airport carriageway on the left-hand side (towards Gurugram) from two lanes to four lanes near the Subroto Park Air Force Station in New Delhi. The project aims to remove the major traffic bottleneck at the start of the Parade Road underpass, where the existing 4-lane road narrows to two lanes due to the presence of a Metro pillar, restricting smooth traffic flow toward Gurugram.

To facilitate the widening, relocation of the drain, peripheral road, and a section of the Air Force Station boundary is underway. The project, expected to be completed within six months, will significantly ease congestion and improve connectivity between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.

The plan also includes the construction of a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) near Subroto Park Air Force Station at the start of the RTR flyover, enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility. Additionally, an upgraded drainage system will ensure efficient disposal of rain and surface water.

In line with sustainability and safety goals, NHAI will deploy anti-smoke guns, water sprinklers, tree transplantation, traffic marshals, and tow-away cranes to minimize pollution and ensure smooth traffic movement during construction.

Once complete, the widened corridor will boost connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram, improving overall road infrastructure and commuter experience in the National Capital Region (NCR).
