NBCC takes up ₹1,269 cr road projects in Maoist hit areas
In order to complete the construction work on the 225 road projects commanding a length of about 1,100 km under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Maoist-hit areas of Koraput district in Odisha in the current financial year, the NBCC has fast tracked the projects at an investment of ₹1,269 crore. The road projects remained a non-starter for several years due to Maoist activities, DGM Rakesh Narayan Sinha said, adding that the company will execute road projects under PMGSY in the district and have completed 24 projects to date. The remaining projects are at various stages of completion. Though all the road projects are in Maoist-hit blocks like Narayanpatna, Bandhugaon, Boipariguda, Lamataput, Nandapur and Laxmipur in the district, the company is committed to work irrespective of geographical barriers and prevailing law and order situations. If the PMGSY projects and 29 bridges undertaken by NBCC are completed within the next four months, it would go a long way in facilitating development activities in interior areas. Apart from Koraput, the NBCC has also undertaken PMGSY work in other Maoist-hit districts including Sundergarh, Nuapada, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal in the state, Project Manager Dhruv Yadav said.
