Nagpur gets Rs.235 cr manufacturing hub

In a major boost to infrastructure creation in the state, government has recently cleared an integrated defence manufacturing cluster to be built at the Multi-modal International Hub Airport (MIHAN) on 20 acre land entailing an investment of Rs.235 crore in Nagpur. The Multi-modal International Hub Airport (MIHAN) in Nagpur is Maharashtra government’s mega industrial project spread over 4,300 ha. By the middle of this year, the first batch of technicians will be inducted for specialized training in defence manufacturing. The cluster is being created in public-private partnership (PPP) mode with Tata Technologies contributing Rs.70 crore. The remaining funds will be provided by the Maharashtra government and Nagpur-based companies involving in defence manufacturing. In addition to the training centre, product design and development lab is also being developed and by March 2019 a testing lab will be set up. VDHIC will be an integrated facility having innovation and prototyping centre. It will initially focus on the development of components for ammunition and import substitution prototyping for armored vehicles, said official sources.
