Nagaland approves ₹117-cr housing for urban poor

The Nagaland government has approved ₹117.34 crore for construction of housing units for the urban poor in Kohima town under the JNNURM program. Of the 3,504 dwelling units planned, about 1,512 units have already been constructed in K Badze, Meriema and Rüliezou, and in the second phase upgradation of 1992 dwelling units in Kohima are in full swing. Three projects for housing and infrastructure development are to be undertaken under the Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana for which ₹1,973.87 lakh was sanctioned for construction of 350 units for the urban poor in Medziphema town; ₹1,859.95 lakh for building rental housing for the same category in Chumukedima where about 384 units are nearing completion; and Rs.1,805.21 lakh for 320 units at Tseminyu town, where 65% of the construction work has been completed.
