The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has recorded significant progress as of 11 January 2026, with major civil, track and tunnel works advancing at pace across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The 508 km high-speed rail corridor features 12 thematically designed stations, including Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Vapi in Gujarat, and Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai in Maharashtra. Out of the total alignment, 332 km of viaduct work and 415 km of piers have been completed, along with 17 river bridges, five PSC bridges and 12 steel bridges.

Track bed construction has reached 292 track km (146 route km) and over 4.9 lakh noise barriers have been installed along 245 km of the viaduct. Overhead electrification is underway with around 4,800 OHE masts already erected across 111 route km. In Maharashtra, tunnel works are progressing with breakthrough achieved for the first of seven mountain tunnels in Palghar, while the remaining six are under excavation. About 5 km of NATM tunneling has been completed out of the 21 km underground stretch between BKC and Shilphata.

Rolling stock depot construction is underway at Surat and Ahmedabad, superstructure work at all Gujarat stations is in the advanced stage, and elevated station construction in Maharashtra has begun with base slab casting progressing at the Mumbai underground station. The project is one of India’s most complex transportation builds and remains crucial to future high-speed rail connectivity between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
