MSRDC rebuilding 190-year old bridge in Maharashtra

MSRDC
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has decided to demolish the 190-year-old Amrutanjan Bridge and rebuild the same near Khandala ghat on the Pune-Mumbai expressway. The road development utility has secured special permission from Raigad district collector to raze the historic structure using explosive materials. Built by the British in 1830 it has become a bottleneck for traffic leading to mishaps. Though not in use since MSRDC built a parallel bridge while constructing the expressway, it was decided to retain the iconic Amrutanjan bridge which was often an attraction for tourists taking photographs of the picturesque Khandala ghat. As the pillars of the bridge were coming in the way for commuters and slowing traffic, MSRDC had written to Indian railways, the custodian of the bridge, for its demolition. With the current lockdown and the deserted expressway, MSRDC has decided to raze the bridge, informed superintendent of police, highway safety patrol (HSP), Thane, Digambar P Pradhan.
