The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), which is responsible to execute the 5.4km Turbhe-Kharghar tunnel project, has taken initiatives to speed up the project involving an investment of ₹1,222 crore. It is negotiating with CIDCO and MIDC over fund contribution. Cidco will fund ₹300 crore, ₹150 crore from MIDC, ₹300 crore will be contributed by the MSRDC and an amount worth ₹622 crore will be borrowed from financial institutions. The state finance department is working out a plan to execute the project soon. The MSRDC has already secured permission from the authorities concerned for the proposed six-lane Kharghar-Turbhe connectivity project as once it becomes operational, the new highway will be used by commuters currently using Thane-Belapur and Sion-Panvel highway stretch and the route will also connect VashiKharghar, Taloja Node of CIDCO.
