MoRTH marches ahead with ₹2,067-cr road projects

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stones for three national highway projects with a length of 119.5-km and entailing an investment of ₹2,067.5 crore, NHAI Chief General Manager Ram Prasad Panda informed. The three projects include 56.77-km of six laning of Bhubaneswar-Tangi (₹806.11 crore), six laning of 62.64-km Bhadrak-Balasore section of NH-5 (₹999 crore) and construction of three vehicular under-passes (VUPs) at Balikuda, Sikharpur and Badachana on Bhubaneswar-Chandikhole section of NH-5, at a cost of ₹1,000 crore. All the projects are slated for completion in the next 30 months. On commissioning, the projects will ensure speedy movement of vehicles, particularly the mining and industrial traffic in exporting materials through ports on the eastern coast of the state like Paradip and Dhamra, and will reduce travel time, vehicle operating cost and boost employment generation. As many as 24 projects worth ₹23,660 crore with a length of 1,560 km are currently under various stages of implementation and 1,645 km of road projects worth ₹30,000 crore have been taken up under the Bharatmala project.
