The Ministry of Defence India has signed a capital acquisition contract worth around Rs 1,950 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited for the procurement and installation of two Mountain Radar systems for the Indian Air Force.

The project includes the supply, installation and commissioning of indigenously developed radar systems along with associated equipment and required infrastructure. The radars have been designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment under the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

The Mountain Radar systems are aimed at strengthening India’s air defence capabilities, particularly in challenging terrain, while enhancing surveillance and national security infrastructure.

The project has been awarded under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, supporting the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and reducing dependence on foreign defence equipment.
