MMRDA fixes Thane-Bhiwandi on Metro-5 radar

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
In stark contrast to its earlier decision, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has recently rerouted Metro-5 via Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan, the highly congested areas in the region. The Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation had demanded that the metro should pass through the crowded areas of Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan, and not through the outskirts of these cities. The survey is currently underway and the civic body will help in acquiring the land parcels. Around 1,000 may be rehabilitated for the line, said joint metropolitan commissioner, Sanjay Yadav. He added that the two routes were in discussion for Metro-5, the first route passes through congested parts of the city and the second route passes through its outskirts. After the line received the cabinet nod, the civic body has demanded that the metro should pass through the congested parts to benefit more people. With the changed alignment, the metro will now pass through areas including Kapurbhawdi, Balkum Naka, Kasheli, Kalher, Purna, Anjur Phata, Dhamankar Naka, Bhiwandi, Gopal Nagar, Temghar, Rajnouli village, Gove Gaon MIDC, Komgaon, Durgadi fort, Sahajhanand chowk, Kalyan station, Kalyan and APMC among others.
