Tamil Nadu Approves Chennai Metro Extension to New Parandur Airport
The Tamil Nadu state government approves the extension of Chennai's metro rail by 93 km, reaching the new Parandur airport. The expansion will stretch the ongoing Poonamallee-Sriperumbudur line, covering a distance of 28 km to connect with the Parandur airport. Land acquisition is already in progress, and the master plan for the airport is being finalized. The extended line will feature stations spaced 7-10 km apart, with plans to design faster trains for increased efficiency. A station within the airport premises is also envisioned for convenient terminal access. The Parandur Aero city, part of the development plan, will host educational institutions, aviation ancillary units, hotels, and a maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) center for the airport.
