Railways to construct elevated corridor for Delhi-Jaipur Semi-High-Speed Trains
Railways is planning to construct an elevated corridor for semi-high-speed trains between Delhi Cantonment and Jaipur that would run at 200-220 kmph. The blueprint for the project has been submitted to the Railway Board for approval, and construction of the elevated track will help in segregation of trains that can take the elevated stretch, reducing congestion on the existing corridor and reducing travel time between Delhi and Jaipur. The proposed plan has necessitated a redesign of the Gurgaon railway station, delaying the tendering process which was originally planned to be completed by March. The railways plan to build elevated tracks for semi-high speed passenger trains on popular routes such as Delhi-Jaipur, Mumbai-Pune, Bangalore-Chennai and Delhi-Amritsar via Chandigarh, with an investment of ₹150-160 crore per km through direct budget support.
