Railway starts work on Delhi-Amritsar High Speed Rail project
The Indian Railways has started a land survey, starting from Dadiana village in Punjab, for the construction of a high-speed rail project connecting Delhi and Amritsar. The railway corridor will have a dedicated 55-foot-wide railway track for bullet trains, capable of reaching speeds of up to 320 km/hr. This endeavour aims to reduce the travel time between Delhi and Amritsar from 5 hours to just 2 hours. The proposed route will originate from Dwarka in Delhi and include stations at Sonepat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Jalandhar and Amritsar. This project is a part of a broader initiative to establish a high-speed rail network connecting major cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. In addition to the land survey, the Railways is also conducting socio-economic survey, which will be carried out after the land acquisition phase for this mega bullet train project. The survey work has been entrusted to IIM-Research in New Delhi.
