Railway expedites Dimapur-Kohima line in Nagaland
The north frontier railway has fast tracked the Dimapur-Dhansiripar to Kohima-Sechu railway line directly connecting Kohima, the state capital of Nagaland, by 2026, said state transport minister P Paiwang Konyak, adding that the broad gauge rail line has been taken up in a phased manner comprising three phases. Phase-I with a length of 0-17 km is nearing completion and work on the 17-44 km long stretch under Phase-2 is currently in full swing, while work on Phase-III from 44- 82.50 km will be taken up shortly after completion of Phase-II. The railway line is a national project and is being monitored by the PMO as the vision of the Government of India is to establish rail connectivity up to Moreh in Manipur. The state government has also proposed the extension of passenger train services from Dimapur railway station to Tuli in Mokokchung district and then to Naginimora in Mon district. It may be recalled that the project was initially destined to be completed by 2024, however its deadline was extended to 2026 due to delay in land acquisition, Covid - 19 lock down, inclement weather conditions, and absence of a approach road to the project sites.
