MSRDC Starts Work on 136km Metro Line from Virar to Alibaug

MSRDC
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is investigating the feasibility of a 136km metro rail project connecting Virar to Alibaug, marking a significant shift in focus towards mass transit. Part of the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, this metro, slated to be the longest in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), aims to enhance transportation efficiency. Scheduled for completion by 2030, it integrates with the expressway and other transport modes. While a detailed project report is pending, initial studies will conclude within 6-8 months. However, concerns over costs and route adjustments remain, with some experts advocating for suburban rail lines over elevated metro options.
