MMRDA to build flyover beneath Metro Line 6

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to commence construction on a new 2.58-kilometer long road flyover that will run beneath the elevated Metro Line 6, which connects Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli. The elevated Metro Line 6 spans Jogeshwari, WEH, and Powai, forming a vast metro network that links four other metro corridors, namely Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar), Metro 3 Colaba Bandra SEEPZ, Metro 4 (Wadala – Kasarvadavali), and Metro 7 (Andheri (East) – Dahisar (East)). In addition, the rail line is also connected to two suburban railway stations, Kanjurmarg and Jogeshwari, and is projected to serve 7.69 lakh riders daily by 2031.

The construction of a Metro depot at Kanjurmarg salt pan land will potentially facilitate the completion of the line. However, the non-availability of depot land may delay the commercial operation deadline of Metro Lines 6, 4, and 5, despite their civil works being in full swing.

Metro Line 6 is a crucial addition to the public transport infrastructure in Mumbai, providing rail-based connectivity between the western and eastern suburbs and contributing to an integrated network for Mumbaikars. With 13 stations, 66% of the work on the line is already complete, and 51.50% of the civil work on the metro stations has been done. The 15.31-km-long Metro line runs through JVLR, an elevated corridor that links the Western and Eastern Express Highways as well as the North-South and East-West regions of Mumbai. The rail line is expected to serve governmental, commercial, and geographically significant areas of the city.
