The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has invited tenders for the construction of the Metro 12 corridor that connects Kalyan to Taloja, providing better connectivity in the region. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has announced funding of ₹1,521 crore for the project.

The Kalyan-Dombivli-Taloja line will extend the Mumbai Metro's Orange Line (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) over 20.75 kilometers and include 17 stations, offering commuters a seamless mode of transportation to and from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

MMRDA has invited tenders for nine stations on the 20 km line, with a contract value of ₹780 crore for the first phase. MMRDA expects to operate trains of 3 or 6 coaches on this line depending on demand. Once operational, the line will integrate with Mumbai Metro Line 5, benefiting citizens of Kalyan-Dombivli, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Badlapur Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel.

According to the Detailed Project Report (DPR), the corridor will pass through agricultural and barren land with comparatively fewer populations. The objective of this project is to accelerate development activities and promote the relocation of people from crowded parts of the city to this area. The project aims to decongest Mumbai by providing an alternative commute option.
