The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) has fast-tracked construction work on the Sealdah-Howrah metro corridor with the aim of completing it by December 2023. The line will connect Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector-V, which is currently operational. A total investment of ₹9,000 crore has been allocated for the project, with ₹1,000 crore allocated to KMRCL for the construction of the green line from Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector-V. This year's budget allocation for metro projects is ₹3,220.25 crore, a 164.77% increase from the previous year. The allocation for the Noapara-Barasat metro project is ₹620 crore. The budgets for the New Garia-Airport and Joka-Esplanade metro projects have increased by 242.86% and 285.71% respectively.
